Deer Creek gets tough, wins state championship

As the conditions got tougher, so did Deer Creek.

The Antlers fought through the miserable weather at Dornick Hills Country Club on Thursday and shot a better team score than they had a day earlier in more favorable conditions to come from behind and win the Class 5A state girls golf tournament. (Read Entire Story)

Deer Creek Tennis Advances to Regionals

Coach Garbutt and the DC Tennis Team continue to have a successful season as they start their journey toward qualifying for state.

On April 22, the Girl’s Varsity team placed 1st winning the Surburban Conference. Deer Creek was led by Kelsi Williams winning the No. 1 singles Championship and Karlee Pace taking the title for the No. 2 singles. The Deer Creek No. 1 doubles of Shelby Pilcher and Krysten Bene were runner-ups.

Deer Creek Boy’s placed 2nd in the Surburban conference led by the No. 1 Doubles team of Noah Hill and Alex Na who placed first winning the championship match.

Next week DC Varsity girls tennis team will travel to Heritage Hall for regionals hoping to qualify all the teams for State on May 3-4. The Boys will follow one week after the girls for their regional play-offs and state championships on May 10-11.

State championships will be played at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center on 36th and Portland. In spite of the rain and weather, Deer Creek tennis is a force to reckon with. We would love to see fans of tennis and Deer Creek fans at the state play-off in May.

Hope Martin, Senior, signs with Eastern Oklahoma State to play softball. Martin was a 4 yr starting outfielder for the Lady Antler Softball Team.

Deer Creek Middle School Wrestler Noah Hooks Recognized Nationally

Noah Hooks, a 7th grader at Deer Creek MS, has begun to rack up an impressive resume as a wrestler including being ranked #1 in the country since November 18th according to the World of Wrestling. Recently, Noah was named to the 2013 WOW World All-Star 1st team and won the prestigious Trinity Award for winning all 3 of the major National Tournaments. He was 64-1 on the season in his age group at 160lbs.

This season he had wins over kids from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and California. Noah went undefeated in all MS duals wrestling up at 175 as well as placing at Cushing and Edmond North tournaments.

Noah accomplishments also included wins at local tourneys: Blanchard, Pre-turkey, Tuttle, Open Regionals. He won all 5 National Tournaments (Cage Fighter Kickoff Classic, Amarillo Nationals, United States Junior Open Championships, Tulsa Nationals (awarded “Outstanding Wrestler”), and Reno World Championships. The win at the Reno was even more impressive since he was battling food poisoning. His only blemish came when finished in 2nd place at OpenState losing in OT.

Noah started wrestling when he was 9 years old. This is his 4^th year. His favorite part of wrestling is that it’s so competitive and that it is not only an individual sport, but also, he can be a part of the team’s success at school.

When asked about the Olympics he said, “I am very disappointed that they are trying to take wrestling out of the Olympics because I feel that it takes one of my goals in life away from me.” He is hoping they decide they can’t do without it and bring it back since it was one of the original Olympic sports from Greece.

Noah’s Parents said, “We are all very proud of him and his hard work. He has accomplished so much in such a short amount of time.”

He is currently trying out for the USA Wrestling Schoolboy National Freestyle/Greco Dual team that competes in Indianapolis, IN in June. He was also asked to participate in the National High School Coaches Association National Duals in Virginia Beach, VA in May.

Oklahoman Recognizes Lady Antlers and Coach

Ashley Gibson received multiple honors from the Oklahoman. First the 5’8″ Senior was named to the Oklahoman’s 5A All -State team. She was joined by teammate and fellow Senior Alexa Adair who was named to the Honorable Mention for 5A.

Gibson was also named to the Oklahoman’s Big All-City team. Coach Totsy Manning was named the Big All-City Coach. Adair rounded out the list for the Lady Antlers again being listed as Honorable Mention.

Gibson last award from the Oklahoman was being named to the 2nd team for the Okahoman’s Girls Basketball Super 5.

Two Deer Creek Swimmers Make Oklahoman’s All-City Swimming Roster

Two Deer Creek Swimmers were placed on the Oklahoman’s All-City Swimming Roster. Freshman Paige Nall Make the Girls Second Team for 100 Freestyle. Brycen McConnell made the Boys Honorable Mention.

Deer Creek’s Blumenthal Named Honorable Mention

Deer Creek Senior Basketball Player Joel Blumenthal was named Honorable Mention on the Oklahoman’s Big All-City Basketball Team. Blumenthal averaged 16.6 pts this season.

Deer Creek Girls Advance to State Semifinals

Deer Creek Lady Antlers defeated Collinsville 42-40 in the first round of the State Tournament to advance to the Semi-Finals. They will take on Tulsa East Central today at 10:30am at the Mabee Center in Tulsa.

The Lady Antlers led 26-12 at the half but were outscored 28-16 in the second half but held on for the win. Deer Creek had three players score in double figures. Dakota Vann led the way 12 pts followed by Ashley Gibson with 11pts and Bayli Blanchard with 10.

Their next opponent, Tulsa East Central had to rally from 29-24 halftime deficit to come from behind to beat Del City.

The winner advances to Saturday’s championship game at 6pm in the Mabee Center in Tulsa.

Deer Creek Girls Basketball Advances

Last weekend the Deer Creek Girls Basketball team won both of its regional games to advance to the next round of the 5A playoffs. The Lady Antlers routed Western Heights 66-13 in the first round game. They then went on to face Ardmore and won convincingly 61-35.

The Lady Antlers will now face conference rival Carl Albert. Carl Albert got here by beating Southeast and Del City.

The winner will make it to State while the loser will have to come through the loser bracket to keep their State hopes alive.

The Deer Creek-Carl Albert game is at 8pm on Thursday February 28 at Edmond Memorial HS. The winner advancing to state while the loser will have to come back on Saturday March 2nd to face the winner of the El Reno Macarthur at Edmond North HS.

Deer Creek Signing Day

Deer Creek High School had 8 student athletes sign today on National Signing day. Seven were football players and the other was a womens soccer player.

Sophia Brazil started the signing by committing to Oklahoma Christian.

The seven football Players were:

Austin Loomis – Southwestern OK State Univ.
